AskBright.com

Project
AskBright.com (CMU-funded startup company) uses the concept of Micro-collaboration to enable users to find, pay, and connect instantly to an expert through voice and live video conferencing. Users who are looking for answers to their questions can easily connect – without the need to download software – in one of two ways: through AskBright.com or through a Bright Badge.
When I took on this project, AskBright.com had a business plan and a great idea, but nothing else had been put together yet. The founder was interested in developing a visual look and feel for the system that would be simple, "playful-professional", and exceedingly user friendly.
Process
I began by working closely with the founder to understand his vision for the project, the people he wanted to target, and some of his business goals. Using my technology consulting background, I gained a broader understanding of organization and helped the founder to refine his ideas about the sort of product that he really wanted to create.
Next, I conducted a competitive analysis looking at methods that people currently use help and connect with others, both online and offline. I then came up with a proposed information architecture and multiple proposed designs. We narrowed this down to one design, then I created wireframes. I worked closely with our team's visual designer to create the visual look and feel for the website. I also worked with the development team to develop the interface for the system using HTML, CSS, and PHP.
Outcome
At the end of the semester, the deliverables that I was directly responsible for were website information architecture, wireframes, overseeing look and feel, and implementing templates for UI.
Founder's comments: "Alissa was a pleasure to work with and very professional.
