Guide Runners
Project
Guide Runners is a Pittsburgh non-profit that brings blind/visually impaired and sighted runners together. When I took on this project, Guide Runners was a new non-profit organization with little organizational structure and community presence.
Process
As a technology consultant for Guide Runners, I performed several tasks. I worked closely with founder to understand the organization's mission and processes. I identified problems and opportunities for the organization, then defined a scope of work for the consulting period. I then executed my work plan and documented my outcomes and recommendations with a focus on sustainability.
One of the tasks in my scope of work to increase Guide Runners' publicity and recognition. I did this by creating the organization's logo and color scheme. I also designed the layout, structure, visual design for a website. I wrote the initial content for the website based on my extensive knowledge of the organization. I also implemented website with a focus on accessibility and sustainability, following the W3C accessibility standards.
Outcome
My deliverables at the end of the consulting period were a formal technical consulting report and the completed website, which was tested for accessibility for blind and visually impaired users.
Founder's comments: "This project expanded my vision of how technology can be used to help my organization grow."
